Let’s discuss five ways to style a linen dress to transition from summer to fall fashion!
Although the summer weather is still hot here in the Midwest (it’s been in the 90s all week!), as August wraps up I know the temperatures will begin to drop soon. This inspired me to come up with ways to style a linen dress as we transition from summer to fall fashion. I love wearing linen for many reasons. It’s lightweight, breathable, comfortable. I recently purchased this dress from Reformation (size 2, TTS). I think it’s so cute and feminine with the ivy print, tie straps and ruffled edges.
1. Casual Warm Weather Style
In this first look, I can imagine myself exploring a new city or boating with friends on a warm end-of-summer day. To add interest to this look I’ve chosen some tan accessories with a belt and block heeled sandals. The belt is from Isabel Marant and is one of my favorite purchases this year. I love that it’s reversible (the other side is black) and that there is no hardware, which I find makes it easier to style. A matching belt and shoes can take an outfit to the next level. I completed the look with a straw beach bag, which adds a nice textural element.
2. Dressy Summer Evening Style
Here I’ve swapped out the accessories from the previous look to make this more of a dressed-up style. This is something I’d wear to meet friends for drinks on a summer night! A belt draws attention to the waist and this white one with gold hardware ties in nicely with the metallic gold heeled sandals. I’m carrying my mini pouch bag from Bottega Veneta as a clutch, which seemed fitting for an evening look. This bag was a splurge, but I had it on my wish list for months before pulling the trigger! I love the neutral color and the intrecciato leather is so soft. I know I’ll be getting a lot of use out of it in the months and years to come, and that is an important factor I consider when making a luxury purchase. My exact one is sold out, but there are many other gorgeous colors and styles available.
3. Sporty Fall Daytime Style
Let’s move on to some fall looks! For a more sporty and casual vibe, I’ve first paired the dress with a white long sleeve turtleneck and a pair of white sneakers. Funny story about these shoes… I wore them up in Northern Wisconsin to the lake and they were looking pretty beat up. I’m not sure why I thought that was a good time to wear white sneakers, but I am all about wearing and using items I love. So I got a new pair of shoelaces and cleaned them with a magic eraser and I think they are back to looking pretty good! The white in this outfit makes it feel so fresh even though its a cooler weather style.
4. Edgy Fall Style
Next I moved to a more grunge look by styling the dress with a pair of black moto boots and an army green jacket. The boots are many years old and well worn-in, but I like the edginess that adds to this look. I’m carrying my black Chanel classic flap bag here, which I don’t think you can ever go wrong with! The classic flap can look very traditional with some outfits, but styled this way I think it looks quite young and contemporary.
5. Classic Fall Style
This last look is one of my favorites. When I first pulled out these boots to put together this outfit, I wasn’t sure if they’d match with the lighter color of my trench coat. I added my same Isabel Marant belt from the first look to bring the darker tan color throughout the look, and I ended up very pleased with the final result! Knee-high boots like this pair from Paris Texas are going to be very trendy this fall, but what I like about these is that they feel classic enough to where they’ll last in my wardrobe for years. My trench coat is from Burberry, it’s in their classic Kensington fit but is more affordable as it’s made of taffeta. It actually also has a detachable hood, which I’ve removed for this look to make it more dressy. Lastly I’m carrying a white handbag to play off the white in the dress!
